Environmental Policy
C F Anderson Timber Products Ltd aims to cause the least impact possible on the environment and commits to continuously monitoring this impact with the aim to improve where practical. At the very least, we commit to complying and exceeding all relevant environmental legislation and requirements.
We have an absolute commitment to be sourcing and supplying as many of our timber based products as possible from certified sources by a recognised certification authority, namely the FSC, PEFC, MTCC, CSA or SFI organisations. This is an on-going commitment and we continuously strive to improve, aiming to maintain and exceed our current target of 70% of our products to be certified or independently verifiable; at present we exceed this with 95% as measured via membership of the Timber Trade Federation “Responsible Purchasing Policy”.
Our biggest impact on the environment is through the use of fossil fuels in order to run our lorries and forklifts. To this end:
- All vehicles are maintained to the highest standards, thus minimising emissions.
- We currently have effective measures to prevent the spilling of fuels and engine oils. These will be continuously reviewed and improved where possible. The target is for no spillages to occur.
- The vehicles will only be washed at an accredited facility, thereby avoiding contaminants entering the water table in this manner.
The following additional factors will be monitored:
- The packaging that we receive our goods in is compressed and sent to a recycling facility where applicable.
- Many of our waste worktops are cut up for packaging dunnage and the remainder sent for recycling process.
- Office paper waste and recyclable packaging is recycled.
- 95% of all our waste produced is recycled by waste contractors.
- Where possible, FSC or PEFC paper is used.
- Printer toner and inkjet cartridges are sent to a company for recycling.
- Detergent products are not currently monitored. We will investigate using more environmentally friendly products.
In order to manage this effectively, we will aim to implement an Environmental Management System accredited to ISO14001 by the end of 2010.
This policy is stated and fully supported by the Board of Directors.
