Computer Hints and Tips
Here are our top computer tips, as mentioned in the CFA Times.
Microsoft Outlook
- Make all the messages from a person stand out by highlighting a message from that individual, click Tools > Organize > Using Colors, and select a colour from the list.
- Make Outlook work faster by deleting messages with large attachments. Click on the word Size at the top of the size column to sort the emails in order of size. Now you can see which emails are the biggest and delete them. Click the word Received to sort by date again.
- To search for a whole phrase in Google, put quotes around it, "like this"
- When searching on Google, click on Advanced Search for more options, such as searching for pages that don’t include a word.
- Use Google to look up word definitions; just search for the word, and then click on definition on the top-right of the results page.
- To search for synonyms of a word as well as the original, put a ~ in front of it.
Microsoft Office
- To print a document without opening it, find the file in Windows Explorer, right-click on it, (Click the right mouse button instead of the left) and choose print.
